“You take care of that leaky sink?” Annette asks when I stop to get my maintenance orders the next morning. I slept better last night than the night before, but it’s not saying much. My balls ached from dry humping Savannah and not getting a release of their own. But hearing her moan my name when she came was worth the torture.

“Yep. They still complaining about it?”

“It’s the Johnson’s. They complain about everything. And if they run out of things to complain about, they make them up. Humor them and stop by.” Annette refills her margarita glass. The woman is an anomaly. One would never know she was drinking unless they watched the pitcher disappear. “I want to ask you something,” she says, her tone more serious than I’ve ever heard it.

I stiffen, worried that word has gotten back to her that I’m going to pop Savannah’s cherry. Would she really fire me over that or encourage me? “What’s that?”

“I don’t think Savannah really wants to go to law school.” The words surprise me, and I give Annette my full attention now. “Her parents…they got a messy divorce. The only time they get along is when Savannah is getting good grades. They’re both lawyers…” She shakes her head. “I know you two have something…between you. I’m not blind. Just do me a favor and find out if she really wants to go.”

I’m surprised by this information because Savannah hasn’t given me any indication that she’s unhappy about her future. But the mere possibility that Annette’s hunch might be right fuels something else in me: hope.

“I’ll see what I can find out.”

Annette taps me on the arm. “Don’t tell her I put you up to it. I want her honest answer. I know you can get that out of her.”

I leave the office feeling lighter. It seems as though I have Annette’s blessing. I scan the resort with new eyes. What if Savannah and I took over when Annette retired? A rush of excitement I haven’t felt in years blazes through me. Hope has been such a foreign emotion for so long; I feared I’d never feel it again.

I set to my long list of tasks around the resort. The list keeps me busy until sundown, but I was able to steal a couple of steamy kisses between jobs. At the last, I warned Savannah I’d come knocking late.

“I almost fell asleep,” Savannah says when she opens her door to my knocking. Moonlight illuminates her smile and sparkling eyes.

“Liar.”

She bites down on her bottom lip, driving me wild every fucking time she does. I reach for her hand. “C’mon.”

“Where are we going?”

“Skinny dipping.”

I lead her down a trail I scoured earlier. One that promised to give us privacy. No way in hell I want another man’s eyes on my Savannah’s naked body. When we reach the shore, I kick off my flip flops and shrug down my shorts. I don’t try to hide my hard length.

“It’s even bigger…”

“Take off your clothes, Vanna.
